Rosemary O'Reilly

Rosemary O'Reilly studied art in Belfast College of Art and St Mary's University College (Queens).   Later, she won a bursary to do the fourth Year in painting, pottery and screen printing.   She taught English and Art in Armagh and Co Down.   She exhibited in Armagh Museum, Kings Hall Belfast, Gallagher Portrait Prize Exhibition, and was accepted in the Annual RUA Exhibition.   She joind RUA as an associate menber.

In 1971 Rosemary came to live and teach in Dublin, studied History of Art at UCD and received an Honours Diploma from Trinity.   Her appraoch to painting is tonal.   She paints in 'Plein air' in oil, gouache or watercolour.   Often her subject dictates the medium.   Composition, light and reflections in water are her inspiration.   By painting directly from a subject, using a tonal approach and a certain degree of simplification, her wish is to capture the very essence of what she observes.

Rosemary's work is held in WCSI Natrional Collection Limerick, OPW, Embassy of Ireland in Beijing, Haverty Trust, National Irish Bank, Eastern Tourist Board, ESB, Presentation College in Tereure.   The United Arts Club recently honoured Rosemary by buying an oil painting for the club house.   Rosemary's work was shown in several Group Exhibitions: Gallagher Portrait Prize Exhibition in Belfast, "Kingstown into DunLaoghaire - a Perspective", Royal Hibernian Academy, RUA, An t-Oireachtas, Claremorris Open, Dundrum Open, Bridge Gallery, Carroll Gallery, Waldock Gallery and Kennedy Gallery.   Her work is held in private collections including:  Dr Eileen Kane and the Calthorpe family.
